Farmhouses and other buildings on a mountain in the Alps, the speciality of this painter. A house or other building in with brown wood against the mountain tops with snow is usually the scene.
Oskar Mulley (April 22, 1891 in Klagenfurt, Austria-Hungary; January 15, 1949 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany) was an Austrian painter. He studied for a year in Munich at the municipal vocational school (1909) and then from 1910-1913 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Alois Delug and Rudolf Jettmar.
Individually interpreted influences of Art Nouveau are clearly recognizable in Mulley's landscape paintings from his early work (until 1925), and even dominant. In his Kufstein period, mountain motifs predominate, always free of figurative representations. His creative time in Garmisch is characterized by lyrical and atmospheric compositions with flat paint. Mulley's "heroic" landscapes with an impasto application of paint and spatula technique have been highly appreciated since the mid 1920s and still fetch high prices at auctions today.
