This orange tip was photographed with an ultra macro lens. A macro shot at very close range. It is an intense image, delicate and very special to observe a butterfly at such close range. This photo was taken early in the morning. Butterflies and thus orange tip tits sit still at night and in the morning because it is still too cold to fly. The details of the eyes, the droplets and part of its feelers are clearly visible. A real eye-catcher. Orange tips have only 1 generation, which means they only fly once a year. This is around the months of April and May. The host plant of this butterfly includes the cuckoo flower. Here they lay eggs and once the caterpillar hatches, it eats from the cuckoo flower. A true spring butterfly with beautiful colours. The male has an olive-green pattern on his wings and the tip of the wing is orange. Hence the name orange tip. The females have white wings, making them less conspicuous than the males.
