The tulips are drawn stylistically, i.e. with the stems upright. This is also how they are in the field. Once picked, they quickly droop. I therefore liked painting them proud and upright, like the Dutch vernacular, straightforward!
I liked the theme of tulips because they are so ubiquitous in our culture.
They will brighten up a room greatly!
