The sea and the beach meet and create an erratic edge. That edge shifts, changes, becomes more erratic or flatter. The sand is engulfed and regains ground. At low tide the sea retreats and at high tide it gnaws away at the sand, forming a new edge: the edge of beach and sea.
In the late evening light this gives a special atmospheric effect.
