What is the purpose of the trip on this American ship? Is it just a day out with the family, are they visiting other family or are they maybe even emigrating? It could also be two families, with one of the fathers as the creator of this photo. A lot of questions which we can’t answer. What we do know is that this is a beautifully made portrait. The sharpness of the picture shows the people perfectly and the photographer also gives us a nice glimp of a stay on board of a ship. On the sign we can read that not just anybody can stay on this deck. Consumption required, is the message. One level lower it obviously is less luxurious. There the laundry was hung outside.
