On a dive in the Atlantic, I spotted this octopus from a distance. Due to their fantastic camouflage skills, this species is generally hard to find. I naturally saw an opportunity for a unique photo, partly due to the unusual contrast of light and dark.
However, as I got closer and positioned myself for the best light, I noticed that something was wrong with this picture. This octopus has not eight, but seven arms. In addition, two of its existing arms are injured. This immediately explained its white appearance and strange behaviour. Still alive, but fighting for recovery, he moved as little as possible. Totally unable to register me.
Quickly I shot my picture and left him alone. This kind of thing is tricky to see, but it is part of nature. However, it did make for a very unique picture.
