ORANGE FACE OF DEVENTER AND THE WELLE DURING SUNSET
Deventer is a municipality in the southwest of the Dutch province of Overijssel. With 100,718 inhabitants (as of 31-12-2019), Deventer is the youngest (32nd) municipality in the Netherlands that has exceeded the population of 100,000. Deventer is (after Enschede and Zwolle) the third municipality of Overijssel and the second largest municipality of Salland.
The municipality of Deventer has a surface area of 134.37 km² and has as its main town the city of Deventer of the same name, which has about 80,000 inhabitants. Other large centres within the municipality boundaries are Bathmen (approximately 4,500 inhabitants), Schalkhaar (approximately 5,200) and Diepenveen (approximately 4,400). The municipality borders Olst-Wijhe to the northwest, Raalte to the northeast, Rijssen-Holten to the east, Lochem (Gelderland) to the south and Voorst (Gelderland) to the west.
