St Lawrence's Church is a landmark of Nuremberg that can be seen from afar and is one of the three most important churches in the city.
Nuremberg is the largest city in Franconia and the second largest in the state of Bavaria. It is located in the north of the state. The city has around 540,00 inhabitants. Nuremberg was first mentioned in a document in 1050 and is home to many attractive sights.
The city was badly destroyed in the Second World War. Before the war, Nuremberg's medieval Old Town was considered one of the most important in Europe. Many landmarks were rebuilt true to the original, so that the cityscape is still characterised by medieval architecture, such as the fortress walls and towers of the Old Town. Well-known sights include the castle, the Henkersteg, the Weinstadel, the Kettensteg, the Heilig-Geist-Spital, the Lorenzkirche and the Sebalduskirche.
Bavaria is the largest state in Germany and has around 13.2 million inhabitants. Around 5 million people live in the Franconia region.
