On 10 October 2024, we experienced a very powerful solar storm in the Netherlands, with northern lights of all colours visible to the naked eye. What you see here is a substorm under construction, which moments later expressed itself in powerful colours right above us. What is also very beautiful is how this substorm also reflects beautifully in the water.
This photo was taken at windmill 't Witte Lam, between Groningen and Zuidwolde. 1 of the most photographed windmills in Groningen and a very popular mill in the area. It is a landmark for many, but with skies we do not easily see here in the Netherlands.
