During the summer of '22 I was walking through Maastricht. At the Amorplein I encountered a familiar composition. The yellow lit awning, the terraces, the 19th century mansions, the blue night sky dotted with stars and the moon. It looked like Night Café by Vincent van Gogh, painted in Arles. This is Maastricht, with unmistakably the church tower of Saint John of Maastricht reaching high above the houses in the background.
An atmospheric work that makes one long for the long summer evenings, sipping a Pernod or a local specialty beer.
