is to take pictures between sunset and sunrise. A photographer may use artificial light or a slow shutter speed for this.
In the 1990s, British photographer Michael Kenna was commercially the most successful night photographer. He took black-and-white shots in places like Britain, France, Japan and the United States. Among his most famous projects are the series of photographs he made at night of the Ford Motor Company's River Rouge Plant in Michigan, the Ratcliffe-on-Soar power plant in England, and a large number of German concentration camps in Europe.
Today, digital photography has made it much easier for novice photographers to experiment with taking pictures at night. As a result, the popularity of night photography has increased significantly and there are numerous websites dedicated to this branch of photography.
