About "Neither of us are at home: Two empty houses"

by Marjolijn van den Berg

About the artwork

"Neither of us are at home:Two empty houses" is a macro photo of two spiral shells/snail shells. This type of shell/snail shell is called: "Phoenicobius Aratus " (if I picked it correctly).
These two former homes of snails are now empty. Hence the title. The fact that the snail houses can be seen from the back gives an even emptier, more absent, feel.
The sharpness in this picture is on the side of the shell, closest to the viewer. From here, the sharpness gradually decreases towards the back. This creates a sense of depth in the photo.
The two shells lie on a mirrored surface, this creates a reflection of the two houses in the ground surface. In this reflection, you can see the snail shells from a different angle. This gives a nice effect to the photo.
I made a series of these two snail shells together. These can hang nicely together as a series, triptych or set. (These other photo's can be found in the "shells" folder in my Work on the Wall shop). For example, the works with work code 1791258 or 1790708.

This work could hang beautifully as a wall decoration in the dining room, bedroom, hallway or just above the sofa! Also beautiful in business locations such as on the wall in a meeting room, office waiting room or practice room!
