In the dry, rugged landscape of the Sinai Desert stand these ancient nawamis - round stone structures that probably date from the Chalcolithic era, around 4000 to 3150 BC. Their construction with stacked sandstone slabs and openings to the west remains a subject of archaeological research to this day.
This image shows the nawamis up close, revealing the structure, texture and layering of the rock. The sun casts warm shadows over the stones, while the blue sky gives the scene a bright, open atmosphere.
The nawamis are silent witnesses of a distant past. Their presence in this desolate landscape raises questions about who built them, why, and how they managed to erect such durable structures in an inhospitable environment. This sculpture exudes tranquillity, mystery and timelessness, a moment of stillness in the desert.
