NATO's Boeing E-3 Sentry (sentry).
The Boeing E-3 Sentry (sentry) is a military Airborne warning and control system, or AWACS aircraft, that provides surveillance, control and communications facilities to air forces.
The E-3 is based on the Boeing 707.
NATO has purchased 18 E-3As, one of which crashed in Greece. The aircraft are stationed at NATO's Geilenkirchen support center in Germany. They are primarily responsible for surveillance of NATO airspace, but are also deployed in global NATO operations.
