The Eastern Scheldt has an important function for the mussel industry. In the bottom culture, the cultivation of mussel seed into consumer mussels takes place. However, although the Wadden Sea has the most cultivation plots, the yield in the Eastern Scheldt is higher due to the influence of low and high tides and the resulting higher supply of food. Along the dikes of the Eastern Scheldt, you can therefore see the stakes marking the plots standing in the water everywhere, and you can see the mussel ships sailing from early morning. In the distance, you can see the more than 5 km-long Zeeland Bridge. Until October 1972, this was the longest bridge in Europe .
