The Museumplein is a square and city park in the Amsterdam-Zuid district, just south of Amsterdam-Centre. It owes its name to the Rijksmuseum, which opened in 1885 and is located on the square. The Stedelijk Museum, the Van Gogh Museum, the Moco Museum and the Concertgebouw are also on Museumplein.
Throughout the decades, Amsterdammers and tourists have used the square on a daily basis for recreation and rest. Before the war, the terrain was popularly known as the IJsclub terrain. Once again, the grassy plains invite you to play soccer, frisbee and picnic, while petanque has been played under the plane trees and around the basketball court for at least four decades. There is also a halfpipe that is used a lot since the last redesign.
