About ‘Mount Nebo’ by Antwan Janssen

Mount Nebo, located in present-day Jordan, has deep significance in religious and historical contexts. At about 817 metres above sea level, its majestic peak offers panoramic views of the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and even the distant skyline of Jerusalem on clear days.

For Christians, Mount Nebo is revered as the place where Moses stood and beheld the Promised Land, according to biblical accounts. It is also considered the site of Moses'death and burial, although no specific location has been identified. As a result, Mount Nebo has become a pilgrimage site for Christians from all over the world, attracted by the spiritual resonance of this holy place.

Besides its religious importance, Mount Nebo also has archaeological value. Excavations have uncovered remains of churches, monasteries and mosaics from the Byzantine period, indicating the area's long history as a place of worship and pilgrimage.
