In Greek mythology, Aphrodite is the goddess of love, beauty, sexuality and fertility, among other things.

She grants mortals the captivating charm that arouses love, but she also inspires the consuming passion of love. She herself has led the way with her example. She has felt the passion of love, she has made more than one person happy by giving him her love. She married Hephaistos, the lame god of fire. When Hephaistos noticed his wife's adultery with Ares, he crafted an artful net. While the two lovers thought themselves safe from any disturbance, they were suddenly caught in the net by Hephaistos and exposed to the mocking glances and words of the other gods.

The woman here stands topless in the portrait. Because of this, the girl's hip and belly are portrayed naked. Also torso, shoulders and breasts are exposed on the work of art.

All in all, a sexy and sensual erotic picture with romance.

Otto Theodore Gustav Lingner (August 25, 1856 in Kolberg, then Germany, now Poland; after 1930) was a German nude, genre and portrait painter.

After completing his apprenticeship in Kolberg, Lingner studied painting at the Royal Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin and continued his studies in Bremen. Together with Fitger, he painted murals in Bremen's town hall, then followed him to Hamburg.
