This intriguing shot of the charming little chapel Try-au-Chêne in Genappe suggests a timeless scene, bathed in the contrasts of black and white. The reality behind this image is even more fascinating than first impressions suggest. It was the mesmerising midnight hour, accompanied by the silver light of a full moon, that brought this picture to life.
During a 30-second exposure time, the subtle nuances that adorn the night sky emerge, while the little chapel and the lone tree were captured with precision, retaining their distinctive silhouettes. My creative approach included the deliberate use of a torch, which during that half-minute, patiently hand occasionally subtly illuminated the scene.
This process reveals the finest details that would otherwise remain hidden, allowing the little chapel and the tree to emerge from the darkness in all their glory. The end result is a harmonious dance between shadows and light, an example of the magic that photography has to offer.
