Mookerheide or Mookerhei a forest and heathland east of Mook in the Dutch province of Limburg at a height of about 50 meters, south of Nijmegen. Every year around August to early September is the heather in bloom and gives a beautiful purple glow. On this panorama the purple glow is reinforced by the low sun that will go down as fast.
the battle of mookerheyde on Mookerheide took place in 1574. Louis of Nassau and Henry of Nassau, two younger brothers of William of Orange, fought here during the Eighty Years War against the Spaniards. The forest between Nijmegen and Mook used a large heather, which was named in his whole Mookerheide.
