The highest point in Paris is the hill of Montmartre. Winding streets and steep stairs take you to the tourist attractions Place du Tertre and Basilique du Sacré-Cœur. The north side of the hill is graced by beautiful staircases set between Montmartre's apartment buildings.
The steps of Rue du Mont-Cenis are perhaps the most beautiful connection to climb or descend the hill. Although the south side with its wide park-like entrance steps to the Sacré-Coeur are the most popular stairs, a visit to the north side is definitely worthwhile.
