The Mont Saint-Michel is a small, Rocky tidal island in France situated in a large Bay at the mouth of the Couesnon. The granite massif of the Mont Saint-Michel is crowned with a medieval Abbey. On the Spire of the Abbey Church is an image of Saint Michael since 1898 that one hundred and seventy metres above the Bay. The island lies approximately 1 km offshore from the place Avranches in Normandy. It is originally a tidal Island: the land was accessible at low tide, but it was surrounded by water at high tide. Nowadays there is a narrow bridge, with shuttle service, to the island. The Mont Saint-Michel, with its stairs streets, is only accessible to pedestrians.
