Minimalist winter landscape with snow marsh – Hohes Venn nature reserve by Rolf Schnepp

An icy winter evening in Brackvenn, part of the wild high moor landscape of the Hohes Venn nature reserve, was the backdrop for this atmospheric photo. The scene was captured on a bitterly cold evening when the moor was frozen and covered with a thick layer of snow.
The soft pastel colours of the evening sky are gently reflected on the snow-covered moor, creating a calm and minimalist winter landscape.

A small body of water flows quietly through the snow-covered moor, drawing the viewer's gaze to the distant trees. The smooth, sculptural forms of the snow drifts add texture and rhythm to the composition, while the soft light of the sunset brings warmth to an otherwise frozen world. The result is a tranquil scene that evokes the silence, cold air and unique beauty of winter in the high moor.

This photograph also captures a moment that can no longer be experienced in the same way today. Over the years, the landscape of Brackvenn has changed significantly, and many of the small open water channels that once characterised the moor have gradually disappeared. The image thus preserves a fleeting chapter in the natural history of this remarkable place.

With its soft colours and minimalist composition, this winter landscape brings a peaceful and contemplative atmosphere to any living space.
