The Windmill of the North, near Oost on Texel, photographed during a beautiful sunset. The clouds, the reflection, the water, the colours and the mill everything seems perfect.
Het Noorden is a polder mill in the Het Noorden polder north of Oosterend on the island of Texel in the province of North Holland.
When the north-eastern areas of the island of Texel were reclaimed, a large mill was found to be needed to drain the area in 1878. When it was built, the mill was fitted with an auger. In 1928, the mill was fitted with streamline sails and three screw pumps according to the system of mill builder Dekker from Leiden. The mill went out of operation in the 1960s and became the property of the De Hollandsche Molen Association in 1970, which ordered a restoration a few years later. Later, two of the three screw pumps were also made millable again. Today, the rods are fitted with the jib-sail system and the mill voluntarily grinds the water around in a circuit.
