The predecessor of this mill stood at the southern end of Broek op Langedijk and burned down in 1867. Because the biotope of the mill had already deteriorated it was decided to rebuild it not at the same place but on the north side of Broek op Langedijk. Because of fire insurance regulations the mill had to be rebuilt in the same place.
The mill was temporarily shut down in 1913 to be used only during high tide. However, due to World War I, the mill was put back into operation in 1914. In 1924 the mill was taken out of operation on probation, which was made permanent in 1926. The mill was spared demolition and continued to grind during and just after the Second World War. After a restoration in 1974/5 the mill is running and grinding regularly again.
