Mexican Chairs and Lemons

by Marieke Wouters

Mexican Chairs and Lemons is an ode to everyday life and the beauty to be found in simple moments. Two distinctive chairs, a table and a bowl of lemons come together to create a scene reminiscent of a sunny afternoon, a quiet conversation or a meal yet to begin. The vibrant colours – from the deep blue of the bowl to the bright yellow of the lemons – lend the work energy and a subtle Mediterranean feel. The atmosphere of this collage is warm, inviting and slightly nostalgic. The image evokes memories of holidays, veranda's, long summer days and the art of unhurried enjoyment. The empty chairs leave room for the imagination and lend the work a human presence without any people being visible.

The collage is composed of carefully selected and hand-torn pieces of paper that have been assembled in layers. The visible textures, torn edges and colour contrasts create depth and character. The artisanal process remains visible in every detail and gives the work its unique appeal.

This artwork fits beautifully into a modern interior, a bohemian style, a Mediterranean décor or a colourful design setting. It appeals to collectors and enthusiasts who love collage art, still lifes, colourful wall art and art with a story. The combination of simplicity and expressive colour makes it a striking yet accessible piece.
