Family of meerkats in the Karoo in South Africa. The meerkat is a small predator belonging to the mongoose family.
They are also called groundhogs because they live underground in long burrows.
At six in the morning, it gets light in the Karoo and the family wakes up. The first animal to emerge immediately stands upright and spies the surroundings for any danger. As the sun does not yet give off enough heat so early in the morning, the rest of the family crawls close together to stay warm.
