Off the coast of Cadzand there is a measuring station in the sea. The photo was taken around sunset, when the light becomes soft and colours in the sky slowly fade.
The measuring station was built to collect data about the North Sea. It measures wave heights, currents, water temperature and wind, among other things. The information is used for research, coastal management and safety at sea.
There is little movement in this quiet moment. The sea seems flat and still. The long shutter speed ensures an almost even water surface. The soft colours of the evening give the scene a calm appearance.
The photo “Measuring station in the sea near Cadzand” shows how people and technology can be present in the landscape without disturbing it. The composition is simple and clear and the sunset makes the measuring station look a little more beautiful for a moment.
