Meadow storkbill (Geranium pratense L.),
Meadow storkbill or meadow storkbill (Geranium pratense) is a perennial plant in the storkbill family (Geraniaceae). The plant is native to western Europe and Asia, where its range extends to western China.
The plant grows up to 90 cm tall. The flowers are usually blue-purple, but can vary through pink to white. These are distinguished by :
Geranium pratense (wild, purple/blue)
Geranium pratense forma albiflorum (white flowers)
Geranium pratense 'Striatum' (cultivar, white with blue spots)
The flowers have dark-coloured, ray-shaped veins. Honey bees find their way to nectar along these.
The plant is a carrier plant for honey bees, bumblebees, solitary bees and butterflies.
In Belgium and the Netherlands, the plant is fairly common in the wild and is occasionally cultivated as a garden plant.
