The Quattroporte III including the Maserati Royal became a successful model with 2241 units. From 1986 to the end of 1990 there was an improved model, the Maserati Royale. It had a more powerful engine and now had 300 hp, so it reached a top speed of 230 km/h. The fuel consumption was enormous, 25.5 litres/100 km petrol, just like the Quattroporte. The now in the Royal built-in refrigerator for the rear passengers with fold-out picnic tables in the side doors was certainly not to blame, not to forget the built-in telephone system and all this as standard. Most cars went to the USA, but how many of the 53 Maserati Royal produced remained in Europe is not known.
