Maserati Merak SS (1975-1982), Merak (or star Mirak in Arabic) originates from astronomy and is said to denote the second star "Beta Ursae Maioris" in the constellation of the Great Bear. SS stands for SS camshafts and not to be confused with the bevel shafts!
The Maserati Merak SS is practically the little brother of the Maserati Bora (1972-1978), almost everything the same except for the engine. Instead of a V8-engine (228-243 kW) like the Bora here, from 1975 on only a V6-engine with 162 kW (220 PS), also recognizable by the black radiator grill.
