In Slovenia, not far from the Austrian border, is the town of Bled. There are not many attractions here, but Lake Bled is well worth a visit.
There is a small island in this lake, said to be Slovenia's only island. The island is home to the Church of the Assumption of Mary (left in image). The islet can be reached by a traditional boat (Pletna). The lake hosts a small fleet of these boats. They are mainly used to transport tourists to and from the island.
If you don't feel like doing this, or the boats don't sail (e.g. in too much wind), you can also choose to walk around the lake, which is about 7 kilometres. A nice walk with little difference in altitude.
This photo was taken from the southwest side of the lake. I chose this angle because I wanted the church and the castle in the same shot, and because the first snow of the 'winter' (it was September) is visible on the mountains behind.
Together, this formed a good composition for a photo of a place that is, after all, known as the symbol of Slovenia.
