'Marram Grass in the Dunes': an impressionist dune landscape on the Dutch coast

by Dirk van der Ven

Let the wind blow through your hair and bring the serene freedom of the sea into your home for good.

A refreshing sea breeze sweeps through the rolling dunes, bringing the rugged marram grass to life. This atmospheric landscape captures the pure essence of the Dutch coast on a light, warm late summer’s day. The dynamic composition draws the viewer along the sandy paths, towards the invisible surf whispering just beyond the crest of the dunes.

Using a refined impasto technique, every blade of grass and every grain of sand has been applied to the canvas with palpable passion. The colour palette balances on the cusp of the seasons: warm tones of straw yellow, ochre and deep olive green contrast beautifully with the clear, light blue sky. The visible brushstrokes give the work a lively texture and an authentic, artisanal character.

This artwork brings the tranquillity, the space and the salty, healthy air of the beach straight into your home. It is an ode to the natural dynamics of our coastline, perfect for those who love a timeless, natural atmosphere in their home. An eye-catcher that invites you to daydream and brings back memories of long, leisurely walks on the beach.
