Tips for use

About ‘Marketplace Goslar - Gildehaus Kaiserworth’ by Thomas Bugdoll

This photo shows the Gildehaus Kaiserworth on the market square of Goslar shortly after sunset at the so-called Blue Hour.

The former building of the garment cutters was built in 1494 on the foundations of the first guild house from 1274. The medieval association of long-distance and wholesale merchants was called the "Worthgilde" in Goslar and was the most important guild capable of holding a council.

The building was run as an inn and hotel from 1831 and was renamed from "Die Worth" to "Kaiserworth" in 1836. The Kaiserworth rises majestically on Goslar's historic market square - a stone testimony to wealth, trade and imperial history. The filigree arcades, the richly decorated façade and the centuries-old aura make this building a landmark of the UNESCO World Heritage town.

Like the Rammelsberg, Goslar's market square and the former Kaiserworth guildhall were also declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992.

Goslar is a town steeped in tradition on the northern edge of the Harz Mountains and is known for its excellently preserved old town centre. With over 1,000 half-timbered houses and the historic Rammelsberg ore mine, Goslar is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Narrow alleyways, imposing churches and lively squares tell of over a thousand years of history.
