In Mandalay you will find an area where there are lots of marble workshops. Here are hundreds of people working from blocks of marble to make Buddha statues. Very nice to take a look. If you walk into the streets behind and next to the workshops you can see what happens to all the failed and broken statues, they are just thrown away. And that happens not only with small statues but also with giant statues of sometimes more than 10 meters long. So too the marble Buddha in this picture. It was just lying there on a sandy square where it once ended up because it was a bit broken and where it will probably stay for the next I don't know how many years. If a monk walks by, you end up with a nice photo and they didn't make the statue for nothing.
