The green heron / mangrove heron (Butorides striata) is a small heron found in tropical areas from South America to the Solomon Islands. The mangrove heron is a fairly small heron measuring 45 cm in length. The adult mangrove heron has a gray-blue back, white underside, black cap and yellow legs. The young bird is browner in color and striped on the underside.They nest in bushes or trees, sometimes on the ground, and often near water. The clutch consists of three to five eggs. Food consists of small fish, frogs and aquatic insects.
