Valldemossa is one of the most beautiful mountain villages of Mallorca and is located in a beautiful green valley. A special attraction is the Carthusian monastery, which is located in the middle of the village. The monastery has existed since the 14th century and is already recognizable at a distance, surrounded by hilly and green landscape. The impressive village is located in the west of the island, about 40 minutes drive from Palma de Mallorca.
Valldemossa owes its name recognition mainly to the famous Polish composer Frédéric Chopin and writer George Sand, both of whom lived in Valldemossa. This is directly noticeable during a visit to the monastery. There is a statue of Chopin at the entrance. The monastery looks steeped in history and inside you will find, among other things, detailed descriptions of medicines and old letters.
While many vacationers visit Valldemossa because of the impressive scenery, terraces, tourist stores and of course the famous monastery, the inhabitants of Mallorca have another reason. The Mallorcans see Valldemossa as the place of St. Catalina. The house of this saint has since been converted into a chapel, where you can also admire a statue of the saint. The market in Valldemossa is held on Sundays.
