The painting measures 78.5 × 66.2 cm and shows the bust of an elderly smiling woman sitting at the corner of a table. With her right hand, the woman holds the handle of a metal beer mug, which stands on the table. The lid of the crucible has been opened. On the woman's left shoulder sits an owl. The woman's clothing is simple and corresponds to the fashion around 1630. The face is turned into a grimace by the smile and the squinted eyes. The manner of painting is unusual for the 17th century and more like that of the impressionists of the 19th century.
