About ‘Malaga’ by Herman Stel
This painting was made as a watercolour but the technique is completely different. By using acrylic paint as a base, it managed to achieve much deeper colours than a normal watercolour. Glossy colour effects and glossy paint for the hair were also used for the original painting. These effects can be seen in the images of Werk aan de Muur

I make large colourful works, mostly portraits because they give me a lot of inspiration. I try to capture the emotion and expression of a face in the colours. The works are mostly spontaneous and consist of a mixture of acrylic paint and a heavy gel. A portrait has to radiate something special and I am usually only satisfied when there is a dynamic between the image and the colours.
