About "Maiko (Geisha), paper art."

About the artwork

Fantasy Drawing.
Actually, I thought I had drawn a picture of a Geisha. Until someone, with clearly more knowledge of Japan than I, pointed out to me that this is a Maiko. A common mistake by the way, because when you see a white face, extravagant accessories, colorful makeup and a pitch black hairstyle you automatically think of a Geisha. But often it is a Maiko, or an apprentice Geisha. The bottom line is that a Geisha has a more subdued appearance because they are older and wiser.
A Geisha is a society lady (not a prostitute) who with her traditional Japanese clothing, singing and dancing brings the evening to a higher level. The geisha can actually be compared to a personal entertainer but if you translate the word Geisha literally, you get the word 'Woman of the Arts'. And I think that sounds much nicer!

Karen Nijst has lived in and near her beloved hometown of Maastricht for many years. She currently works as a web developer (Kahlo Websites in Hapert, Brabant) and is responsible for both programming and graphic design . At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
