About ‘Lunch break on the ice’ by Belle Époque

This authentic black-and-white photograph captures an unposed moment from working life in the early 1900s. At the centre are three fishermen, true ‘sea dogs’, taking a break on a vast, frozen expanse of water. The men are sitting on a rustic wooden structure, which is likely part of an ice sledge. The photograph captivates with its remarkable depth of detail and reveals the harsh reality of winter coastal life.

Unique historical details, such as the simple iron runners of the skates strapped beneath the heavy work boots with leather straps and the heavy, functional woollen clothing, make the work a valuable historical document. The convivial scene – a fisherman drinking from a bottle whilst the others smoke cigars – lends the historical motif a strong, human presence. The vast, bright background of ice emphasises the focus on the characterful faces of these sea dogs.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
