Richard Georg Strauss (Munich, Bavaria, Germany, 11 June 1864 - Garmisch-Partenkirchen, 8 September 1949) was a German composer and conductor. He possessed a great knowledge of the orchestra and a remarkable talent for transforming extra-musical matters into music. He himself stated that he was capable of "grinding a beer glass". Strauss adapted Berlioz's theory of instruments. Until 1909 he was celebrated as an avant-gardist. Later he was accused of having returned to traditional tonal structures, but this already gave him the status of a classic during his lifetime. Because of the method of instrumentation and polyphony, his work is considered a high point in the music of late Romanticism.
Ludwig Hohlwein (Wiesbaden, Germany, 27 July 1874 - Berchtesgaden, 15 September 1949) was a poster designer, graphic designer, architect and painter. He was one of the most prominent representatives of advertising art. He studied architecture at the Technical University in Munich and Dresden.
