The ships walk through the dunes on Texel, they graze the heathland every year. The sheep are from Daphne from Vrolijkeschapen.nl
Nature management
The Vrolijk sheep herd works year-round for various clients mainly in North and South Holland. As natural grass mowers the heath sheep maintain various terrains and make them even more beautiful. The flock is used, among other things, for the control of hogweed, foxglove and the storage of saplings. The sheep prevent grass from growing and keep dune areas open and varied. They easily graze uneven terrain and reach places that a mower or flailer cannot. After a visit from the flock, space is created for other animals and plants. The sheep carry seeds and insects in their fur and hooves. They create an open landscape with a great diversity of flora and fauna.
Tailor-made grazing
The flock is herded during the day and spends the night in a special night pen set up by the shepherd. Because the herd is always shepherded, we know exactly what we are doing and how the areas develop. Together with the client, we make a tailor-made grazing plan and afterwards we map out what we have done. In this way the sheep are true stewards of nature.
Sheep at work
Respect for our animals and the nature we work in is the starting point, from there anything is possible. We can visit with the whole flock, or with a smaller group, just what suits the terrain best. We are therefore a nature and environment friendly solution for terrain management and besides that it is of course also fun to see such a flock of sheep at work.
