Lonely stands this tree in the desert. Among the sand dunes. In northern Mauritania in Africa's largest desert. In the Sahara, the landscape is very varied, even if you wouldn't immediately think so with the desert. Colours and shapes alternate. Sand, dunes, rocks, mountains, canyons. Different every day. Different at any time of day. The light changes colour. Soft in the morning and at the end of the day, harsh in the middle of the day. I meet Nikos or no one here. For two days I don't see a human being. Where do you experience that nowadays? It seems like the end of the world. Or the beginning. I feel insignificant. The desert overwhelms me. As a human being, I am nothing. The desert is fascinating. The desert never ceases to amaze me. I love the desert. I feel comfortable there; I am alone, but I don't feel lonely.
