Locomotives Through History – 1900s - Bernina Express by Johannas Art Creations

Journey into the breathtaking world of Swiss railway heritage with Locomotives Through History – 1900s: Bernina Express, a realist oil painting celebrating the romance of early mountain rail travel.

A vintage early-1900s Swiss steam train winds gracefully across a high stone viaduct suspended above the snow-covered Alps. Behind the locomotive, towering mountain peaks disappear into soft winter mist, creating a dramatic sense of altitude, distance, and quiet isolation. The train’s dark silhouette contrasts beautifully with the muted whites, cool blues, and rich natural tones of the alpine landscape.

Executed with controlled, medium brushwork and thin, authentic oil layers, the painting preserves the warmth and individuality of traditional handcrafted art. The snow is rendered with a soft, painterly matte finish rather than artificial digital brightness, while gentle edges and organic tonal transitions create a refined gallery atmosphere.

A timeless tribute to Swiss engineering, alpine scenery, and the golden age of railway exploration, this artwork brings together history, adventure, and serene winter beauty. It is an exceptional choice for collectors, railway enthusiasts, lovers of Switzerland, and anyone seeking sophisticated fine art with authentic human-painted character.
