About the artwork

TWE 152 - Historic Steam Locomotive of the MBS

The TWE 152, also known as ELNA 5, is one of the few remaining steam locomotives from the 1920s. Built by Henschel & Sohn in 1927 (works number 20818), it originally served with the Teutoburger Wald-Eisenbahn (TWE) in Germany. After decades of active service on various regional railway lines, the locomotive found a new home at the Museum Buurtspoorweg (MBS) in Haaksbergen, the Netherlands, in 1972.

With her characteristic 1'C layout and outside Heusinger steering, the TWE 152 offers an authentic impression of classic steam traction. She was carefully restored and today runs again in her historic black and red livery, pulling both passenger and goods trains on the atmospheric MBS line.

For modellers, railway enthusiasts and photographers, the TWE 152 is a must-see: an iconic example of German craftsmanship from the early 20th century, still exuding the charm and power of classic steam locomotives. Her presence on the MBS makes for unforgettable rides and unique photo opportunities, ideal for lovers of historic railways.

Experience the TWE 152 in action and experience a piece of living railway history, from the original TWE service to the museum route in the Netherlands.
