Lloyd Quarter is a new urban neighborhood which since the beginning of this century has been built on former docklands.
Schiehaven, Parkhaven and St. Jobshaven were excavated around 1900. From this location passenger ships of the Royal Rotterdam Lloyd left for the Dutch East Indies, and the ships of the Batavier Line departed to London.
From the sixties onwards the activity slowly decreased because many port operations were relocated to newer ports, located more westerly.
Central in this image is the Schiecentrale power station, redesigned by Mei architects. Behind it we see the river Nieuwe Maas as well as an area where the port activities are still present: the Waalhaven.
