Little thieves in the larder – Woodland Friends stealing apples in the night

by Floral Abstractions

The little thieves in the larder have discovered a basket full of apples. A raccoon, a badger, a fox, a squirrel and some mice are scattered amongst the shelves, preserving jars and boxes, whilst the red fruits roll across the room. The squirrel is perched above the overturned basket, the raccoon is already holding something edible in its paws, and the badger is examining an apple on the floor. Two foxes are watching the commotion, whilst the little mice are searching for their own spoils amongst the jars and scattered provisions.

The illustration tells a humorous story from the Woodland Friends series and combines the charm of classic children’s book illustrations with a Scandinavian-inspired design. Rust red, warm brown, muted green, cream and soft grey create a natural, cosy colour palette. Wooden shelves, baskets, jars and the many apples turn the larder into a richly detailed setting where children can discover something new time and time again.

As a wall mural, this design is particularly suitable for children’s bedrooms, nurseries, playrooms and cosy reading corners. The friendly woodland animals complement a child’s bedroom with a woodland theme, animal motifs, natural materials and Scandinavian elements. Combined with other designs from the Woodland Friends series, it creates a narrative wall display centred on the secret adventures of the little woodland creatures.

The design feels particularly lively thanks to the apples falling out of the basket and rolling across the floor amongst the animals. Through the window, the dark winter night can be seen, whilst inside, warm light fills the little pantry. The result is a playful scene full of movement, curious glances and little discoveries. If you look closely, you’ll spot traces of the night-time visit everywhere and can continue the little story yourself.
