"Lionfish, Bonaire" photograph was taken at the 1000 Steps dive site in Bonaire, Caribbean Netherlands. A native of the Indo-Pacific, Lionfish are considered an invasive species in the Caribbean and Florida. They are the only fish that can be legally hunted in the Bonaire Marine Park. I will leave the hunting to other divers and was fortunate to have this very large Lionfish swim right next to my camera. Normally they face away from you and hide under coral heads, but this one knew they were big and held their ground. Staying away from the venomous spines, I put down my macro lens and shot this close-up. It is unfortunate that Lionfish are detrimental to the health of our Caribbean and Floridian reefs, but their beauty is undeniable.
