The van Speijk lighthouse in Egmond aan Zee was built in 1834. It is named after Jan van Speijk, a Dutch naval officer who achieved fame during the Belgian Revolt in 1831. The lighthouse was built in memory of him and his heroic deeds during that period. Located in Egmond aan Zee, the van Speijk Lighthouse is not only a historical monument, but also an iconic landmark on the Dutch coastline.
